The Solution
Core samples were taken of the original reinforced bitumen membrane and it was deemed viable for overcoating. It was power washed to remove any debris and inspected to ensure there were no areas of damage.
After the membrane was prepared, the roof was upgraded with a Centech warm roof system, which consisted of Centech PIR insulation and a Centech SA Carrier/VCL carrier membrane to increase the thermal performance of the roof and achieve a U-value of 0.18W/m2.K.
Two coats of the Centech PU system, which is fully reinforced with Centech GFM for durability, were then applied to provide a durable and watertight finish.
A series of new Centech rooflights were also installed, including a large monovault rooflight, measuring 1240 x 3080mm, which was fitted above one of the entrance areas to maximise natural light. The Centech system was dressed up to the rooflight kerbs to ensure the integrity of the roof.
Non-flammable, ultra low odour and free of any harmful materials, Centech PU is one of the safest liquid roofing solutions on the market.
The system is cold-applied and cures rapidly, meaning it is quick and easy to apply. This allowed the contractor to work efficiently and keep to a strict schedule of works – all while the hospital remained open.
